SGAM Toolbox

The SGAM-Toolbox aims to be a little help for architecting Smart Grid Systems in reference to the Smart Grid Architecture Model (SGAM) as introduced by the “Smart Grid Coordination Group”. It is implemented as extension for the modeling tool “Enterprise Architect” from Sparx Systems.

To learn about the possibilities and the usage of the SGAM-Toolbox take a look at the provided video tutorials on youtube.

!!! Please don’t forget to set your youtube player to HD with 1080p resolution!!!

If the videos draw your interest, you can download the SGAM-Toolbox, an introduction document and a simplified demonstration example below:

NIST Logical Reference Model

There is one more cool thing available now: The SGAM Toolbox has been used to model the NIST Logical Reference Model (LRM) as proposed within the NISTIR 7628 Guidelines for Smart Grid Cyber Security. The LRM delivers a great basis for your individual developments as it provides a reference architecture including a comprehensive set of initial security requirements. If you want to learn more, take a look at my presentation held at the Consulectra Symposium this year.

You can browse through this model here. If you like this model and want to use it as basis for your own development you can contact me to get the original Enterprise Architect model.

Change Log

That’s new in V0.6:

  • Toolbox is now implemented as “Add-In” with a single setup file
  • Various enhancements when creating new elements
  • New diagram type for developing ICT architectures (e.g. network topologies)
  • Functionality for migrating existing SGAM models to the new version

Please note: You will have to manually remove the old version of the SGAM Toolbox first. You can do this by selecting “Model Resources (Alt + 6) > MDG Technologies”, right click the “SGAM Toolbox” entry and choose the “Remove Technology” option.

That’s new in V 0.4.0:

  • Metamodel Update: Metamodel is now aligned with the Intelligrid Use Case Template
  • CSV Import/Export Specifications
  • Templates for CSV Import/Export and Risk Assessment
  • New Elements and Icons
  • Security Requirements Engineering: Framework and Patterns
  • Location Attributes for export to Visualization Tool

Terms of Use

The SGAM Toolbox is basically free to use (Please recognize the License and Disclaimer at the bottom of this page). In order to support our work, to establish a user-community and to keep you up to date about bug-fixes and new releases, we kindly ask you for two things:
